Dating: Luck or a Numbers Game?

At weddings you often hear that “Dave is lucky to have met Catherine” or “Joe was lucky to sweep Anne off her feet.” But finding a relationship isn’t just about having a bit of luck.

When something you may be struggling with comes easier to others, the perception is that they just got lucky. For singles, they may refer to their friends as lucky when they find “the one” because their perception is that it was easier for their friend to get into a relationship, and they themselves must not be lucky.

Yes, perception is reality, but the fact of the matter is…

Dating is not luck; it is a numbers game.

We all know someone who found love easily, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t put in the work to make it happen. If you were hoping that it would be as easy as having your groceries delivered to your door, think again. The reality is that dating can be work...that’s why there are dating sites and Matchmakers.

Finding a relationship is not just about being ready to find love, it’s about taking action and putting yourself out there. Simply put, you must be accessible. The more people you meet and are introduced to, the more opportunities you bring your way. That in itself is where the numbers come into play.

Each first date is a fun and exciting new experience. Think of it this way, the more first dates you go on, the more new experiences you have. By going on more dates, you are also expanding your comfort zone and can use these experiences as a tool. If the date turns out to be a no-go love connection, you can still take something away from the date. You’ve learned more about what you do or do not want in a potential partner.

We have said it before, and we’re sure this won’t be the last time you hear us say it, but the more you put out into the world, the more it gives back. Yep - that means more first dates! So, it’s time to make it your goal to introduce yourself to more people or go on a date with the person your friend (or Matchmaker) has been dying to set you up with. Taking steps in the right direction will increase the opportunity for you to meet the person who’s right for you.

Who knows… Playing the numbers may just be your luck!
